Being first-gen is hard. You shouldn’t feel ill-equipped or alone. And you definitely shouldn’t have to deal with the gatekeepers of the profession.

You embrace challenge. You’ve taken high-stakes exams, been accepted to professional school, and financed your education. You’ve already come so far.

You may not have a professional network, but now you have this community. We’re former first-gen, teaching next-gen. You belong here, and you can make it.

Former first-gen, teaching next gen

I’m just a kid from Canton who dreamed of being a doctor. I’m Devin, a first-generation college graduate, and doctor. I’m currently an anesthesiologist resident at Johns Hopkins and the “white coat” half of White Coat Black Suit.

In 2015, I joined the U.S. Army to finance my dream of being a lawyer. I drove trucks in the National Guard while going through an accelerated BA/JD program. I’m Savannah, a first-generation lawyer and the “black suit” half of White Coat Black Suit.
